Heineken
Expel filters stop air controller damage caused by compressed air contamination at Heineken's Hereford site.

Ready to Stop Equipment Failure and Save Thousands?

Project Background:

Heineken’s Hereford site was becoming increasingly concerned about the frequent damage caused by liquid water in compressed air lines. In particular, the air controllers in the boiler room constantly needed replacement. In a few weeks, the air controller could be replaced up to 5 times, costing the site £1,500 to replace each time.

Damaged air controllers in a brewery’s boiler room can significantly disrupt combustion, including steam reduction, temperature instability, and potential product quality issues. Inefficient burning increases fuel use and emissions, raising costs and environmental impact. Maintaining functional air controllers is crucial for efficient and reliable brewing operations.

The Heineken site urgently needed a solution to this expensive problem.

Why Did Heineken Choose Expel?

Expel filters outperform conventional compressed air preparation methods by providing consistent, maintenance-free filtration without disposable internal elements. Instead, the internal element uses physics to separate contaminants from the air and uses a gravitational pull to discharge them into an AVG Auto-Drain. Sites using Expel filters never have to experience performance degradation. Expel consistently removes 99.999% of liquid water, oil emulsion fluids, and solid particulates down to 1 micron.

Conventional filters use disposable elements that become saturated over time. This increases airflow resistance and forces compressors to work harder, increasing energy usage. As the media deteriorates, filtration performance declines, leading to poor air quality and higher maintenance costs.

After hearing about Expel’s exciting money-saving and equipment-protecting qualities, the brewery’s maintenance manager quickly decided to install Expel. The results were instantaneous.

The Results:

  • Reduced Waste: The site has eliminated the risk of inefficient fuel-burning and product and equipment wastage by stopping air controller damage. Expel has, therefore, reduced environmental impact, wastage and costs.
  • Reduced Costs: The brewery was replacing the air controllers 5 times a month because of compressed air contamination damage, costing them £1,500 each time. Expel will likely save the site £90,000 annually by eliminating this issue.
  • Reduced Maintenance: Expel has reduced the time spent replacing damaged air controllers and dealing with the impact of disruption to the boiler.
  • Protects Equipment: The air controllers are guaranteed continual protection against three primary sources of compressed air contamination.
